How to compress an MP4
Drop your MP4 above — it's processed locally, never uploaded.
Choose a target size (or type a custom MB). Trim the clip if you only need part of it.
Click Compress video and download the smaller MP4.
What actually makes an MP4 smaller?
File size ≈ bitrate × duration. SumoSquash lowers the bitrate to hit your target and, for tight targets,
downscales to 720p. It uses hardware-accelerated WebCodecs, and falls back to VP9/WebM where H.264 is unavailable,
so it's fast and works offline — with no watermark on the output.
How do I make an MP4 smaller?
Re-encode at a lower bitrate — SumoSquash computes the right one for your target size.
Will it lose quality?
A little, but usually not noticeably. Trimming keeps quality higher at the same size.
Is it private?
Yes — everything runs in your browser; the MP4 is never uploaded.
