Why it's private
Most "online compressors" upload your file to their servers. SumoSquash encodes
in your browser with WebCodecs, so nothing is transmitted or stored.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Encoding happens entirely inside your browser — the file never leaves your device.
Which formats can I use?
Video: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and GIF. Images: JPG, PNG and WebP.
Is there a file size limit?
Browsers cap how much a page can hold, so very large or 4K files can be slow or
fail. The desktop app has no such limit.
Can it do subtitles or translation?
Not in the browser — speech recognition needs a model far too large to download
into a web page. The desktop app transcribes speech in
99 languages, translates the subtitles into 15, and can even dub the result using
your system's voices — all on your own machine.
Will compressing ruin the quality?
Rarely. SumoSquash works out the bitrate your target allows and lowers the
resolution only when the target is too tight to hold it.
Does it add a watermark?
Never. There's no watermark, no account and no upload.
